Copy card dispensers

As you might know, the copy card dispenser on the main floor of Redpath has been out of order for a few days. Jessica from the Ancillary services came to the desk this morning to explain what’s going on. The machine probably can’t be repaired, so they are going to move the machine from the Cybertheque up to the main floor, making this the only dispenser in the building.

The Cybertheque machine is also currently out of order, so students will have to buy/load cards at the Copy Service for the time being. However, Jessica said that the machine will be fixed by the time the Copy Service closes at 6:30 today.

She also brought several copy cards to the desk in case of need. There are several empty cards to be given out when the machine is loading money but not issuing new cards. There are also two cards labeled “911” which now have $15 each. These are meant to be loaned to clients if the machine isn’t working outside Copy Service hours. She said she will check back periodically to reload the cards. The Cybertheque desk should also have some emergency cards, and the students who work there will need to be informed of all of this.

[N.B. I’m just relaying this message; I don’t have any info beyond what is noted here.]

Banner upgrade

Banner, the enterprise system used at McGill to store all student, applicant, employee and finance data, will undergo a major upgrade and will be unavailable from 5:00 pm Thursday, November 18 to 6:00 pm Monday, November 22.
During this period, the patron loader will have no changes from Banner to load, and students and other users who lose their ID cards will not be able to have them replaced. Therefore, from 5:00 pm Thursday, November 18 until opening on Tuesday, November 23 only, please allow anyone with a lost ID card to borrow provided that:
1) They show credible photo ID
2) They have a valid account in Aleph

We don’t anticipate that there will be many users in this situation in such a short period of time. For any Aleph questions in regards to this, please contact Jane Aitkens at 4704.
