Guest Accounts

A reminder on the provision of guest accounts to potential users.

- guest accounts should be given to "legitimate users" who need limited-time access to microsoft office applications, e-mail and/or the Internet.

- "legitimate users" could be visiting profs, graduate students, researchers or alumni (use your discretion)

Users might ask for a guest account when, in effect, they really only need the regular sign-on "guest-guest" access to the catalogue and databases.

The reference interview will enlighten.

ALL laptop users requesting guest accounts are to be encouraged to use one of our computers.

No "guest accounts" are to be provided to laptop users, since we have no control or tracking of potential problem users/abusers.
