1. Morning staff and evening & weekend supervisors should verify that all machines are working properly at the beginning of their shift.
2. Check for printer problems by opening the top cover. Add a new roll of paper or fix any paper jams as required (instructions for installing the paper rolls can be found on the inside of the top cover).
3. If there are any other problems, open the bottom cabinet.
4. If Self Check-out machine is off (screen is blank) turn on the computer.
5. If Self Check-out machine is frozen or displays an error message reboot the computer:
Turn the computer off and then on using then power button on the PC
Or use the keyboard and try typing Ctrl-Alt-Del (simultaneously) and then select “Shut Down” and then “Restart”.
When machine restarts it should go directly into the Self Check program. You can confirm that the machine is working by borrowing a book.
6. If, despite all of the above, the machine does not work (or if there are other problems) please:
Email ICS (support.ist@mcgill.ca) and cc: Jared Wiercinski (jared.wiercinski@mcgill.ca). Describe the problem and any error messages.
Leave the machine on.
Put an Out of Order sign on the machine. Please make a note on the sign that the problem has been reported, the date and time, and your initials.
